Applying American Silicone is Simple

Application Tips

  1. American Silicone is intended for use as a direct-bond, single pass silicone roof coating. Apply at a minimum rate of 1.5 gallons per 100 ft2 for a minimum Dry Film Thickness (DFT) of 22 mils. Application rates will vary by surface, permeability, and job conditions. The coating will be dry-to-touch in 2-8 hours and should be walkable in less than 72 hours depending on weather conditions.

  2. American Silicone should not be applied at ambient temperatures lower than 40 ̊ F. Be sure that all surfaces are dry and that rain is not forecasted during application window.

  3. American Silicone can be used directly from the packaging. It should be stirred evenly with a roller. In corners and wall areas, use a wide brush to apply.

  4. Prepare the substrate: The substrate surface must be strong, stable and flat, free from gravel, cavities, and obvious cracks or holes. The surface to be coated must be free of oil, grease, dust, or other residues. The gaps in the surface must be firmly filled and the edges must be rounded. Irregular surfaces with a large number of exposed parts, cracks and holes, should be repaired, filled and leveled before using American Silicone.

Notice

  1. Rubber, polyethylene, polypropylene and other materials may have poor adhesion, and should be tested in advance before applying.

  2. Avoid exposure to rain within 4 hours after coating application.

  3. After the coating is applied, allow 24 hours to 72 hours before walking on it.

  4. Protect your Brushes and tools by cleaning them after application is complete.

  5. It’s best to use the full bucket once opened, but if you don’t, be sure to tighten and seal the lid before next use.

  6. Apply the Silicone directly to the roof, by brushing, rolling, or using a high-pressure airless spray.

  7. The appropriate dry film thickness of the coating is 1mm. When carrying out two layers of overlay spraying, the coating construction needs to be carried out within 4 hours.

Applications beyond Roofing

  • Long-term protection for structural elements in contact with the soil. Basements, foundations, floors, connectors, and pipe sealings.

  • Seal larger horizontal surfaces, such as foundations, balconies and terraces.

  • Protect concrete structures and connections from moisture.

  • Can be directly coated on slightly damp substrate without primer. Avoid standing water.
